6 months to Dec 2018 -

Thought it would be pertinent to post it here in anticipation of Full Year, and update before month end

What I'm inferring is that on your first link there's a Lazard EM fund dumping 951k of script & the local guys mopping it up Coro for instance upping their holdings.

Should another fund dump say JPmorgan & he phones his mate @ Wells Fargo who jumps on the chance to short on this new info we could see a knee-jerk hit ala Viceroy & Capitec scenario but without some bogus report. I've seen it before when foreigners dump it's brutal & very quick..

All in all what I'm saying is I'm a buyer waiting/fingers Xssed for the above to play out....& if JPmorgan phone me I'll give you the heads up.. :D

I see there is a shareholder section here, is that more or less what you're referring to?

I don't know why I recall it specifically Simon Brown mentioned yrs back SHP offered great value long term around the R123 mark & said he would be a buyer at those levels.

I think it was trading in the R170's then.

Another thing in it's favour is that it is very defensive by nature & so fund managers HAVE to put monies somewhere so SHP WILL attract some of that spend.

Guess we're speculating on where the bottom is.

Gonna try & find out how much is owned by overseas funds cos when they dump it's free-fall & this was a market darling along with MTN for those guys for a good while

dont think its shp itself...combination of weakening fx and market pricing in the imf poor growth prospects for SA announced on Wednesday!!

Couldn't agree more. and along with what Soutie said concerning their expansion into afrcia coupled with hyperinflation makes for a double wammy.

I couldn't help but take a small bite today but I'm holding out for R140 if no update is given. Will asses after that if necessary.

looked at chart...that lilac serrated line ( bull /bear line) is at 178.7,,,fact that it broke means bears in charge..

alos impt tendline breaking...if not claimed back by bulls today means this could go down to R125.00

trendline about R151.00

Cheers Soutie.

We should see an operational update soon (if not today after trading)

To summarize my thoughts on other threads, my opinion is that the Annual Report isn't going to be pretty at all. The culmination of the strikes and move over to SAP are going to fully reflect on these results. Question is, what did their 2nd half look like?

Found this old thread so let's try to keep our news flow/opinions here.

I've also been eyeing Shoprite lately as well as Pick N Pay.

I'm more leaning towards the later as I think Shoprite's African venture is something I'm not fully comfortable with.

I also think Pick N Pay is offering a better experience in my area most definitely.

But Shoprite has proved time & time again it can deliver.

There's the Christo Wiese share story to sort out & their new IT systems to fully bleed into operations & people can trade down from Woolies & speciality stores.

My 2c

I'll add should the topic develop.

After the recent pullback in retailers, could SHP be a buy at it's current price?

Yes. It's a buy but retail sales are weak at the moment. Tricky one. Buy for the long-term.
