Hoping for a pump and nice rebound and you may see it..... But please be cautious as we in unrealistic environment and can go down double after going up... Also sasol gave comforting news if oil stays at 33usd....well problem now is oil can get to 20usd as it did in 2016 2017

Be cautious but a short term pump is on

Market is pricing oil at 20 usd, not looking at sasol as an asset... Completely oblivious.. Hence you see ing the dump

Oil isn't Sasol's only play here....Lake Charles is diversification deluxe with feed stock on hand at the end of the street...Think Secunda.

The oil market is presently witnessing a price war to gain market share between Russia & the Saudi's (also there's a vote presently before parliament to amend the constitution to allow Putin to have more than 2 terms...Mugabe worship...) Saudi's did recently list Aramco so their sovereign wealth fund is bursting with cash so I expect this price war to be over before end next month..

None of these producers want oil this low makes no sense if you hold the means to production...

Today's SENS is indicative of an imminent rights issue...Blame placed solely at the feet of the previous joint CEO's when Mr Market knows it belongs solely to David Constable....Google Fluor for some history

If the above plays out as mentioned earlier pension funds etc...are the losers & Goldman & the likes pick up blue chip for penny stock outlay....

My 2c

P.S. Beware a retaliatory strike from Iran on a US  Middle East installation...Now there's a curve ball....

Soutie,

This is where the FED oversea and hopefully our reserve bank can play a real role in this worldwide chaos.

Buy the debt at Zero interest, convert to capital and give the company a chance to ride out the wave of chaos. It was done very successfully for many companies through the world in 2008 and the government made a very healthy return on selling back their investments over the last couple of years.

Hope sanity will prevail...

Honestly the FED would rather see an end to Lake Charles & some home domiciled entity own & run it....As for the reserve bank they got enough to deal with domestically.....!

What if General electric came in with a $5 unsolicited bid tomorrow afternoon it's chump change for them or British Petroleum...In a few months time I hope that this last week & next week is the lowest hanging fruit of my trading career..

I'm currently long CFD's from R31+change.

I can't believe what's transpiring here....The numbers are not adding up....Mr Market is treating Sasol like it's insolvent...R121 long term let's say R35 billion short term debt...

Lake Charles even in a fire sale is easily $6billion (R96b) I could Blah Blah on but basically something stinks & pension funds & unit trusts etc...are going to be raped of their funds while investment banks are going to prosper by virtue of US bully boy tactics...They did the same with BTI as soon as it concluded the deal to buy Reynolds.

We live & function in a carbon based system that isn't going anywhere soon & will be even more entrenched with oil floating around sub $50/barrel.

If you're in you're in if you're not in choice is yours's.....But boy "o" boy never underestimate the compound power of fear in the market...

I doubt it's over yet & some form of communication is most urgently required...

I haven't averaged down yet cos it's not my style but F' it's hard keeping off the trigger...

I wonder if the shareholders will launch claims against Sasol for the 90% drop in share price haha. Ridiculous.

Wonder where this share will find a bottom. I think it can even go lower due to margin calls.

The group had long-term debt of R121.28bn as of its half-year to end-December, which compares unfavorably to its market capitalisation of R19bn on Thursday morning.

Taken from Business Day..

… the market capitalisation of Sasol today is R33 billion, which is insane. We’ve just come from R450 billion.

Taken from interview with David Shapiro on Moneyweb yesterday...

Absolute carnage hereabouts....!

SB45,

I have learnt my lesson over the years on averaging down.

My rule now is as follows: (using Sasol as example)

- initial buy based on information available then - R220 - Oil price was ok and Lake Charles seemed on its way to become profitable in 3rd to 4th quater

- Average down no1  - Once share falls 50% (luckily fell so hard I missed the R110 mark and bought again at R80

- Average down no 2 - Once down 90 % - I'll buy again at R20 - R22 a share level

- Average down no 3 - never - By this time the end should be around the corner an rather take your money and go buy a pie and a coke. At least you'll get something for your money.

This major pain JR, its better to salvage at this point averaging down could be way too painful since the bottom is unknown....the markets can be brutal.

I think I must cancel my 1c bid for Ascendis shares and change it to Sasol shares. The way it is going now is making shivers running down me spine.
