Also need to find a way to show that if you buy more of a same share on a different date, that it puts both those purchases under the one share name on the graph. If you know what i mean.

It does do that already hey. You just need to copy down the formula's when adding the trade on the left. I've grouped returns etc per company. I need to look at how I'm going to handle sales of shares though.

You definitely on the right track with this tool.

Look forward to the final version.

If anyone else cares to share (even if you want to PM me), I would really appreciate at. I'd love to get as many people's perspectives on how they track their portfolio's, so I can build the best tool that suites me.

Hi,

I used to use multiple excel based tools, but they have all been discarded in favour of microsoft money (sunset edition).  It is free and dowloadable, and does everything you need (and more).  The only down side, is that you have to update the ruling prices manually, but that's not a major issue.

Tip - if you are using excel as a tool, and investing in offshore markets, there are excel add ins, that can allow you to automatically update ruling prices in your spreadsheets.  Very cool when set up.  I haven't checked lately, but it wouldn't surprise me if JSE shares have been added to the add on's.

Online tools, like google finance (and i think Bloomberg can do the same) can also be set up to monitor portfolio performance.   So there is plenty of options out there.

Hi guys

I don't know how comfortable you are with sharing your own tools but I thought it may be helpful to share each others ways of tracking their share portfolio's. I've attached mine which I've started working on, which I use to track my portfolio. The figures aren't correct (I've changed them in this example) but my workings are there. The big green figure represents my total return to date, as an annually compounded figure. So, to start, this figure will be very volatile until I have some decent history. 2nd tab is a very basic dashboard which I still need to work on a lot. Need to push cntrl+alt+F5 to refresh it. The dividend section to the far right of the first tab is just a basic calender view of divi payouts from shares in my watch list.

If anyone else cares to share (even if you want to PM me), I would really appreciate at. I'd love to get as many people's perspectives on how they track their portfolio's, so I can build the best tool that suites me.

One thing I haven't factored in my calculation is how I'm going to look at shares sold (how I'm going to calculate the return). I still need to get my head around this part. I also haven't factored in divi's in my return calc.

I look forward to any valuable input.
