Maybe the market expected the fine to be reduced even more, or scrapped all together

Dowwn to 14000c, you would have thought that a reduced fine would be great news? Confused

MTN down today. Was hoping for a jump when the announcement came...

Strange announcement.
This just after they said the president will have the final say and that nothing will be decided before he meets tomorrow with Zuma. To me this looks like the NCC realizing they are going to get nowhere near what they initially asked for and now might try to convince MTN to pay a lower fine before it really gets reduced to some menial amount (in comparison to the $5.2Bn).
Also an announcement of major players on the MTN Nigeria side resigning and being replaced.
Will the markets take this as good news? I hope so.

It's easier to bribe a single person than a regulator. And it is Africa. I wouldn't be surprised if the fine gets reduced.

with the president getting involved now, i recon a least a small discount may be passed...

ridiculous ? this is Africa, nothing will surprise me. It does though look like the entire fine is priced into the shared price based on how much of the market cap has been wiped out by the reduction in the share price.
Back to the fine, some are saying that it is the biggest fine for any company in the world.
I'd say hold on as the company will (eventually) recover from this.
Wouldn't it be nice if the NCC could give MTN a 'Black Friday' type discount.

Anyone have any ideas about this ridiculous fine?
Has is been fully priced in or is the expectation that it will be reduced? Will a staggered payment scheme be enough to keep the market happy?
I bought MTN the morning just before the fine was announced

when news come out - will either go to R180 or down to R125
Downside is already mostly priced in

So bad news due out from MTN about the fine... share price seems to think so!

Anyone know what the Zakhele shares are worth (and I don't mean the share price - started trading today - mean using the underlying calculations)?

Shareholders are advised that MTN expects an increase of between 5% and 15% (equating
to a range of between 1482 cents and 1623 cents) in headline earnings per share ("HEPS")
and an increase of between 15% and 25% (equating to a range of between 1679 cents and
1825 cents) in attributable earnings per a share (“EPS”) for the year ended 31 December
2014 when compared with the previously reported HEPS and EPS of 1411 cents and 1460
cents, respectively, for the year ended 31 December 2013.
Not bad all considering all things and the negative sentiment lately.

thanks A, food for thought indeed..have bought a very small speculative pos @199.00 .keeping powder dry in case we see sell off can add lower down.
Recon we could see R190. At least a flush below R200. R200 is a too obvious level to buy IMO.
Also with gamma - if you intend to buy for the long haul... buy and forget about it.

My opinion would be buy now. I do not see how the oil going down will impact on that much on MTN's balance sheet. I expect to see more data revenue as well as some cost savings coming through.
Purely my opinion and I do own MTN shares.
