The reason its hard to come by is the fact that the JSE charges crazy amounts for the data. So why would these guys make it easily available when the JSE charges them for it.

As said, the IG Excel API doesn't allow you to withdraw data from equities.

I will check the Bloomberg API, but think it will be quite costly.

Never got a response as to why.  Also the local IG facility doesn't have the API.  You have to have a UK account for that.

API only works for indices and forex, not shares

Good to know, thanks cypher.

(sucks though..., wonder why that would be the case)

IG does offer "webservices" that a programmer can use to perhaps set something like that up.

http://www.ig.com/za/apis

Our web API offers you an easy way to get market data, historical prices and execute trades against any of your IG accounts. It can be used with Excel (VBA), .NET, Java and any programming language that supports HTTP.

Good luck Coenraad!  Hope someone else can help you with the rest of your questions.

Programmers are expensive though - I'm not sure what the standard rate is for VBA programmers though, maybe they will be more affordable than asking someone to program a solution in Java or .NET (more object-orientated languages).  Personally I would pay more for a Java or .NET solution though - hoping that this will imply good and maintainable code that can easily be passed to other programmers for future changes and maintenance.

Good luck!

Hi.

I have some difficulty getting historical data for shares. I require the data in Excel, so the graphs on the IG platform is not sufficient.

The data from Google Finance seems to differ from the data on IG Platforms, and I also require some intraday data.

Does anyone know of a alternative solution? I'm willing to pay if the amounts are not unreasonable.

Furthermore, can anyone shed any light on the difference between Google Finance and IG? And is the data on Google Finance the buy or the sell price?

Thanks.
