I've compiled some information about the iCTel service for those who are not interrested in doing the research themselved.

icTel has launched in March 2008 after a pre-launch marketing spree.

Estimates are that they already have a waiting list of over 52 000 people who signed up during the pre-launch.

I have tested the service from my Mobile phone (which allows you to chat to Skype, GoogleTalk, MSN and Yahoo friends, as well as calling landlines for very very low Voice-over-IP rates.

Update: Free service between 19th May - 19th August
icTel has introduced a free trial period for anyone who wan't to try out the service. You will not receive a dedicated number and can only call out.

To have your own number, which can be the same as your mobile number with a 27 at the beginning, you can either reserve your number or register it for a R79 admin fee.

The Client you can download to your PC is preconfigured and the Mobile version as well (which is temporarily being improved and not available for download if you didn't already download yours...)

The Mobile phone version is a customised version of the Award winning Mobile phone software Fring.

This allows your grandma to receive the software via SMS and start calling without needing to configure anything.
Thats what I call proper software deployment.

Viral Marketing mixed with Split Level commission is not pyramid schemes. Go and ask any marketing professor at you local university.

Also: You do not need to join the referal network.... just like if M-Net said they will pay you for a referral, doesn't mean you have to go out and tell people all about M-Net now does it?

I foresee that icTel might change their marketing strategy slightly in the future as they expand more into placing infrastructure Wireless Hotspots.
So far so good.

The Only downpart at the moment is they are fixing the mobile phone software download :
This means you can't download the mobile phone version for the time being (23 May) but they are planning on having it up and running again ASAP.

There is other software you can use with their service but requires VOIP service configuration knowledge, which neither my mom or your grandma will be able to do easily.

Best for them to get the mobile software version up and running again really quickly.
