David did you try the higher CCI period ie 20 or 25 or 40 and even 50 for better results!! ( instead of 14)

I noticed the higher the time frame the higher the cci setting should be!!

seems 20 is the better one for daily...that is at least what the back test showed.

I find trading like body surfing, catch the right one and you will make it all the way to the beach.

A graphical look on the DAILY ALSI Future since Jan 2012 if you used parts of HDB's system.

I tested it with:

3SMA > 10SMA

CLOSE > 34SMA (this does make a huge difference and for FX trades it is used a lot)

CCI14 > 1

Positions were opened when all three = TRUE

Used opposite for short.

Green = Long entry

Black = Short entry

Red and Blue is where one did not enter

Hi D, v interesting. is that chart a daily timeframe? thanks.

Update on 6 Virtual CFD Trades using the HDB CCI System - Price in brackets is current)

1. Long SPG @ R28.79  ( R29.40)   latest - R 29.14  holding

2. Short MSM @ R138.61  ( R136.45)   R 135.46    holding

3.  Short TRU @  R83.22  ( R79.01)     R 76.2       close and take profit  8.42% in 2 weeks

4. Short BIL @ R336.13   ( R331.97)   R 335.27   close for breakven

5. Short AGL @ R267.13  ( R260.00)    R 259.99        close and take profit  2.68% in  2 weeks

6. Long VOD @ R127.80 ( R128.32)  R 127.3  holding

Adding  2 shorts to Virtual trades which gave signal to short:

7. Short NED @ R221.87     R230.5  closed for a loss of  3.89%

8. Short LHC @  R 41.55     R42.10

Above value of our virtual trades as of this weekend!!

Some points to consider from the trades:

Market trend is up. Longs is the play. Therefore short signals must be for very quick profits. Is this worth the risk? No i think.

In fact NED gave the signal for short at zero line cross but actually was a signal to increase existing longs!

Bil you could have made a few rand when it fell towards R330 but quickly reversed upwards.

I think AGL will do same therefore closed both these shorts.

Msm and TRU were very good signals and nice profit...

In my honest opinion i will now only go short if price breaks below 34ema and cci must be below -60!! In an uptrend i noticed shares may break below 34ema and below zero cci but quickly recover due to market sentiment. Therefore i will wait for cci to actually fall below -60 to go short. Loose a few rands but at least you know its a profitable trade..

Please note i have not used this system to trade cfd shares so i am only giving an opinion if this system works for cfds. Do your won research, play with the cci period etc to see if it suits your type of trading.

Hi HDB

Thank you sharing this system with us.

I am a bit late to the band wagon, but have been reading since post 1 this afternoon, I now have 10 pages to go. Its been quite a long read, but definitely a good one.

I have been busy with work and have not had much time to focus on trading, however, once things start to settle down I will definitely be giving your system a go.

Thanks again.

Regards

No problem...Its pretty easy to use...

So, these figures can cause big moves on our Alsi even though it is after hours

Sure. For one thing, currencies never sleep.

This whipsaw action is more pronounced when important data/news surprises. NFP pretty much where expected, saw nothing dramatic happened.

Do the opposite of what the market first reacts...if it goes down, go long and vise versa!!

This I've seen so many times. Remember last year when Fed announced tapering, DOW spiked like 200pts and then returned within seconds.

Advise from am old Toppie for newbies trading the Alsi...

Do not be in the market during NFP sessions... market is very very volatile.

Also if you want to trade after NFP is out which is very high risk, do the opposite of what the market first reacts...if it goes down, go long and vise versa!!

Applies to forex too...Mms will hunt for stops both ways big time!!!

I'm long at 44930. Don't understand why we are slinking lower before NFP.
