It is often like today where the S&P futures index has wandered away from the closing level and becomes seemingly driven by algo trades back towards the closing level in time for the open.

The opening period is usually volatile as it takes out nearby stops.

Many other markets indices tend to be influenced quite powerfully by the US futures indices. 

Hence I look to follow the leader before the US opening and be out early.

My take is that the high was at the end of August. But it has drifted back and could post a double top or new high. The futures point to downside today, maybe this will be the breakdown.

The Rand is on a hiding to the nether regions. Looks like around the 20 mark during the electioneering mayhem.

We have to protect ourselves against the inevitable currency collapse. I think your strategy should work just fine.
