My thinking if there is a rate hike - the banks would run (as interest income would increase substantially).  My reasoning for shorting the bank (specifically BGA) is the recent rally of over 14% (perhaps dividend chasers pushing the price up to hard to quickly, although I do agree it was cheap then (from R130s level), so expecting a pullback, but also if the Reserve bank does not increase interest rates, such would be deemed a negative as annuity income margins are not increased.....

I agree that if there is a rate hike banks will move up.

Is anyone going to follow the mod meeting closely and short the banks if there is a rate hike?

Fail

opened at 1230 and closed at 1205 for a loss.

Things look bad for PNC. Sellers are stronger than I anticipated

was a justified punt/trade..could've gone either way

i see that Nedbank increased there margin rate of PNC from 10% to 32% effective from 1 April 2014.

volatility expected on the high seas :)

Do not try and bend the market. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth. Then you'll see, that it is not the market that bends, it is only yourself.

Wowzers naspers is going to get hammered today. Is it still a good short from here? More pain coming or not?

Imagine how much one would have made had one invested opposite Roffey in the last 3 years?? "gold at 3000, alsi will never see 31000"

Now that's my language..... Bloody RSI over the roof.... Price shy of R80. Waiting for aunts gill or April fools.... Crazy to buy at current levels

And uncle roffey says sell....

How wrong can we be???

The Hot Stoxx guys are still buying Woolworths at R72.10, all i can say is good luck with that trade!

The "experts" including Morgan et al have it pegged above R84 - with the influx of forex after the recent outflow it may get pushed up - stranger things have happened ;) I can see HDB throwing the kitchen sink every R1 it rises

YOu guys still looking at NED for a short?

Its climbed even higher? Besides being oversold I don't see any reason to short?

Unless you take a coin flip bet on the MPC meeting tomorrow

as i said..i'm not shorting ned today..but soon enough
