So to all those that said abil shares are worthless and that we will get burnt... Abil currently trading at $1.41-$1.60 (R15 for batch of 5 shares) on OTC market or R3 per abil share.  link for screenshot: http://www.marketwat...ing/stock/afrvy

R3/share on the order of the proposed value per right.

Magnet I wont even look at that web address... U living more in hope because u have got shares in them... I don't own abil shares and as an outsider/ neutral person  im telling you its worth ZERO!!!!

U took a risk,, now u paying ur dues!!

As for that other guy who gave ull hope that ull will see 100% return, he missed the - ( minus) sign ....-100% return!!

This is a fact...get over it and move on!!!

Ok, we hear you 'know it all' Professor HBD...Time will prove you wrong as always... I still maintain "if you bought ABL sub R1.00 you're in the money + 100%...this is political, I don't expect you to understand with your market blinkers on....

Capitec will be next, impossible that they are not going to burn exactly like Abil on the unsecured debt. At the moment they are being opaque about their NPL situation "extend and pretend" is the description used in papers this weekend, trying to fly under the radar hoping that the tide will turn, the inevitable chickens will come to roost some time in the near term.
PSG will come off too when this one eventually pops out.

So Moody's have downgraded Capitec, seems the inevitable is indeed playing out.

How are these Manco's (Coronation selling) and Allan Gray (buying) able to do these deals when the shares are suspended? Are they doing private sales?

Yeah they got in at 50 cents before suspension

This sentiment is often sprouted, and it bugs me. How is extending credit to the poor and then charging them interest (no matter what the rate) helping them? At the end of the month, they are still worse of UNLESS that loan is used to start a micro- business. But you still need a job to get the loan, so highly unlikely that you taking the loan to start a business.

The sad fact is look around you there is a need for social lending to avoid mass social unrest.

If or forbid when the poverty stricken decide enough already they aren't going straight to ANC fat cats or BEE recipients, it's middle class suburbia that is the starting ground for a wealth re-dress but that's a totally different topic.

Read the post again it if lending was more evenly applied (read acceptable rates, not extortion via garnashee orders) repayments would not be un-affordable for the majority.

With all that has happened, I think one of the challenges in SA’s banking system is that the major banks refuse to offer poor people in certain areas cheaper credit. This market failure opens gaps for unsecured lenders to offer expensive credit to the poor and sadly many cannot afford repayments. It is arguable that had people been given credit with interest rates in the mid-teens, the disaster at African Bank would not have been as hectic as it has been.
