- Stock name: Poynting
- Stock code: POY
- Business model: Specialised in the design, manufacture and supply of antennas and associated devices.
- Downside Risks: Disruptive technologies appearing.
- Investment case: Market penetration still low. Telecomms still nascent in Africa and central to growth. Have a good plan. Hold lots of patents.

Good thread Keith.

Here's the first one that came to mind. I'm sure there are many others but MIX deserves some discussion

- Stock name: Mix Telematics
- Stock code: MIX
- Business model: Innovation driven tech company focussed on asset tracking and associated telemetrics. Post capex spend the business generates largely annuity driven income.
- Downside Risks: Essentially a tech comapny and so at risk of disruptive technologies appearing.
- Investment case: Market penetration is still low and adjacencies are rapidly opening up. MIX is well postioned to capture these opportunities. Great geographic footprint (including Africa) across both emerging and developed markets make it a great rand hedge. This diversification also defends revenue stream shocks in any given market. Management have proven themselves in terms of delivering over the past 5 years.
- Valuation: Looks high at the moment but positioned for growth.

Love MIX...will have that in my portfolio in 2014 for my kids

But I'm only a humble student subject to correction.

There are 2 smallish stocks that Im really keen on... Curro and Zeder. Im writing exams at the moment so dont have time to discuss at length but I will elaborate on them in the coming week.

Im with HendrikB on ZEDER. Looks very promising as a long term stock, with excellent management and expertise in the agri-field

Hi Keith, as always I find everything you post very insightful

RBA HOLDINGS LTD

RBA

Low cost housing

Housing market collapse, liquidity

RBA announced interim results 25/9/2013 with a loss of R11.5 Million to shareholders. A later SENS release 29/11/2013 RBA states that they have recieved an origination fee of R10.5 Million. This almost covers their interim loss for this period and leaves the company given positive statements in later SENS releases attributed to them and the three major projects they have started in Orchards, Kirkney and Lehae, looking to post fairly good increases in revenue and profit at the end of this year. SENS 8/11/2013 RBA announced that Investec Fund Mangers SA now holds 6.07% beneficial interest in RBA Holdings.

Do not try and bend the market. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth. Then you'll see, that it is not the market that bends, it is only yourself.

Hi everyone,

I have started this thread for a number of reasons: Firstly, I am just plain curious with regards to others opinions and their views on the market. Secondly, this is effectively crowdsourcing some research ideas. Thirdly, as we end the year and go into the next one, I think a fresh look at new potential investments is quite topical. And, finally, this should make an interesting (expanding) read during the traditionally quite newsflow period of the Festive Season, which really starts next week...

The idea is that somewhere on the JSE is the next Ten Bagger (+1000% return) stock. Which one is it? Ten Baggers tend to be small caps growing quickly from small bases, hence this is really a small cap thread. Also Ten Baggers are almost always made over a couple of years, so this will be fundamental analysis thread.

Let me add some structure to this thread so that replies and conversation can flow smoothly. Please write your investment idea for the single most promising small cap on the JSE in the following format:

- Stock name:
- Stock code:
- Business model:
- Downside Risks:
- Investment case:
- Valuation:

So, what small cap do you think will be the next Ten Bagger?

Kind regards,
Keith McLachlan
