I totally agree, hedging has got me into alot of poo in the past and the stress is not worth it!
Yes, I'm learning the hard way. Never again! But I've been forced into it (to protect my margin). Now I'm stuck and just don't know how to get out.
Been thinking; might try it again, with a "double SL" point. Hedge at 1st; then all out if 2nd SL (Limit of opposing position) reached??

I am still holding. FTSE futures up. Emerging markets taking strain. Pound over R18. Not to phased about Argentina at the moment.
Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it

Anyone in the class playing hedging the alsi?
Not at all. I have, on one or two ocassions, hedged part of my LT portfolio using CFD's, but without much sucess. As mentioned by others, just too much stress. The ALSI itself is like a hedge - if you called it wrong, get out and try again.

You answered that me... Thanks
Hedging is a complete waste of time, effort and money!! makes you more stressful, corrupts your though process later when a good trade could b e missed and you end up making wrong decisions!!
Yes, you can hedge stocks, but hedging the alsi is a definite no no...rather close the trade at a loss and move on!! My opinion only!!

No. My take on hedging: If you need to hedge, then your strategy is not working. (And your position size is too large!)
Think about it: What is the difference between hedging and just closing your original position? (You can always get back in later if you close out.)
If you don't get it right, then you may get stuck with two losing positions. All you do is pay interest... (Remember you pay more than you receive...)
And then decision time: When do you close out the hedge? Who says the market will not turn at EXACTLY the moment that you do?
Not worth the stress IMO...
I am interested to know if anyone got this right?

Well, yes; just don't seem to be able to get out of it; don't have the know-how;stress levels high. A bit despondent at this stage...
