Clearly momentum up but I don't know where its coming from.
Your guess is as good as mine. I guess the market is taking a neutral stance to all the risk events. That's what Reuters would tell you at least.

Good call. With the risk events this week it's hard to imagine the market doing anything but go down but this market is incapable of pricing risk events so we shall see. Europe is starting to weaken and there's a long way down from here.

Closed longs on the futures trade from last week. Will assess whether to close the warrant trade or hold

IMO the bulls in for a surprise today. Rand strengthen and oil not holding up. My 3c that its the drivers for the week.

My 2 cents I'd that the wise may not close their shorts... only to reopen shorts shortly after futures close out... knowing that US and most global indices are heavily overbought and due for correction... logically the shorts should roll over their contracts
42000 still in range...
True i am also suspecting that people will short the new contract but i am trying to figure out what will happen with the old contract before it is closed

Normally I'd say yes but with the risk events on the 15th who knows where the markets will go until the close out. No doubt everybody is expecting fireworks next weeks and that never ends well for shorts. I'll definitely factor that in terms of any short-term exposure I might hold.
Okay so i am holding onto the longs till next week. Seeing that i will not be available for active trading

Okay. So tell me if generally people are holding shorts and we are coming to close out will the short covering lead to a rally into close out?

I've got long-term shorts that I will hold onto for as long as humanly possible. As far as the short-term short I will most likely hold onto a portion of it and free up a bit of liquidity. More for my emotional management than because I believe the market will go up on Monday. The reaction here was just a lot of long covering in the dollar and a lot of short-covering in treasuries. It's beginning to unwind again and by Monday I believe the dollar will back to strength and commodities will be on the back foot again. World-wide Equities should be at the very least cautious owing to the risk events and ultimately that should mean at least some downward movement on the ALSI.
Not to say there might not be a short squeeze in the ALSI for the rest of the day. Friday unfortunately brings such a thing more often than not.
