The non-farm payrolls report wasn’t the data that mattered today

 

For all the noise about the jobs report, it was the PCE inflation data that mattered.

The economy is better, no doubt. Alone that points to a taper but with low inflation, the Fed can wait.

 

Stock futures are 1% higher, gold is rallying and the dollar is losing ground — that’s exactly the kind of reaction you would expect to a stronger economy and no taper. The clincher? The Treasury market is higher with 10-year yields down 1 basis point to 2.86%.

 

Then again, maybe the market is wrong about the Fed
