The first goal is to ensure survival – avoid the risks that can empty your account and put you out of the trading business.

Gold selling of 6%, with no real news to justify this move. I know there is the story that Cyprus is selling its gold to finance the bail-in, and the Chinese data, but that does not justify this move, so I believe the "smart money" is trading on news that is still to be released.
(Maybe anticipating end of QE?).
You are on the right track me thinks. See here

It would seem, April 2013 has ushered in the biggest points drop (in a month, thus far) since +- 2009. August 2011 had a big swing, but ended fairly positively, so it doesn't count.

US might be more focused on their own data, being earnings season now, than what the Chinese are up to. But I am no intl expert, so thanks for the input.ABSMuller

No expert myself. However US futures down 0,3 on ave and their Empire Manufacture data was bad. Earnings wise Citigroup beat estimates.... Actually hoping for a drop on our side going to close. Want Top40 below 33450....

Ta Plasma, but I am now very "nuuskierig" in what the next move is going to be. I have a little bit of the "it can't go any lower" feeling - NICE!
Your take? The other scenario (ALSI hits today's low and bounces off it tomorrow AM). I don't have any clear signals yet what the next move is going to be, so for now, I believe thees are the two moves at play. I prefer (and root) for the first, where April is going to grow legs now. Will wit however before a long is entered into.
Nicely called Lekkerry

US still has to deal with bad Chinese data. Everybody down between 0,8 and 1,2%. Will US be any different? If not I think will follow even lower....Let's see... 33200 touched, then back-up. This could just be the beginning of a very nice up-leg. Argento, you still rooting for longs? I would say, unless ALSI reacts on negative US news, I see a possible long up to 34000 or even 34200 as ALSI's next move.
I am keeping a very realistic view on the next move that might just-just be a long. The expectation is there, now just need a push of +- 200 points up to confirm this, between this PM and tomorrow AM, me thinks

My take: 33500 and then 33200 (J200).
... 33700 (J200), if it breaks substantially, I am cutting the short.
