Sorry one last thing guys, I don't want to sound stupid but,

I am long VOD and looking to close my position. If i want the dividends should I hold on till 20 June, or sell now and just buy again on the 19th, surely it cant be as simple as that? Otherwise you could just trade over 2 days chasing dividends with every share.

When the dividend is paid out the share price will fall the value of the dividend so it is not as simple as just buying the share the day before, getting the dividend and then selling it.

Ok, this makes sense now.

So if you sell the day before the LTD, you get NO dividends even though you have been in the long position for maybe 20 days?

Sant1 is correct that the dividend will be paid to you the next day so you can sell the CFD long the next day after the LDT and your account would be credited with the dividend

Hi, you have to hold the CFD position by the close of day on the 15th, you can sell the CFD the next day the dividend will be paid to you on the payout date.
Thanx, so to confirm, what you saying is that as long as you are holding the long position until the close of business the day the dividends report is out, if you sell immediately the day after you will still get the dividends the following month when they are paid out?

you have to hold the cfd on the LDT, then you will be paid the following day. So if the 15th is the LDT then you received div on the 16th. Its not like a share when you have to wait for the payment date.

Can anyone please give me some clarity on dividends when holding a long cfd.

Example,

if you purchase cfd's on the 1st and the dividend report is due on the 15th and the dividend payout is due on the 15th of the following month.

When do you not qualify for the dividend payout when closing your position. Do you have to wait till the actual payout before closing your position?

mmmm..AJ you should have used that bottom tail on about 6Jan as your other trend line to form a wedge.. It would have formed a perfect wedge..Breakout would have been either way...downside or upside....!! and it broke to downside!! Beauty of charts....

Mmmm... Dammit, yes. Good spot, thanks.
