Hi
Can some one suggest a good
Off shore trading platform.
I see this appearing lately under google ads
Perhaps saxo bank

http://m.saxobank.com/
Thanks

Not sure of your needs, but I'd suggest IG, Oanda and StandardBank

Well over 1.5bn going through in BATS so far today. Normally I sell too soon and would've sold when it hit my target on Monday so this looks very interesting. I wonder what's up, seeing that a few commentators have said its over priced.

SARS will still tax you at your marginal rate whether CFD's or SSF's. I was doing the same as you are until my broker advised me to rather do the cheaper SSF's at zero  gearing. If you feel comfortable with a trade, you can go 1:2 or 1:10 if you wish but at zero gearing you will not pay interest as you do not need to borrow the money.

Orca, please enlighten us how one would save heaps through SSFs and CFDs? Surely SARS still taxes as revenue in nature? Thanks

I agree that it will still be revenue in nature but it is in the costs and gearing where you score.

Orca. You're confusing me. First you say SARS will take most of it, then you say SARS will take 40% of my gains. Which one is it? Most of it, as in what? more than 2 thirds, or 40%? And why 40%? I presume that's what YOU'RE taxed at because your high annual income warrants being in that bracket. I'm a low income earner so I will only pay 25% unless my gains from stocks pushes my annual income up into the next bracket.

I presume you are saying that SARS won't tax me at my personal tax rate if I make my gains from CFDs. Really? I didn't know that. So in other words different derivatives, like CFDs and SSFS and warrants, attract different rates to just plain stocks. I really didn't know that. Thanks for the tip.

The thing is, I'm a high risk trader and any derivative is going to increase my risk and I don't want that. My style of trading doesn't force me to do complex calculations and sit in front of the screen all day. I choose good quality mostly defensive stocks mostly for the divis. I want to keep it short and sweet and simple (excuse he pun). But thanks for the warning though. I have played around with CFDs and they seem the least complicated of all the derivatives but a lot of people have been burnt by them and you have to watch them 24/7. Maybe one day I'll give them a try but I doubt it.

Bread. I have warned you before many times. Stop jumping in and out of stocks as SARS will take most of it. Rather go for SSF's or CFD's and you will save heaps.
Saying that you bought this at this price and sold it at that means nothing as SARS takes 40% of your gains.
Please rethink your strategy.

Bats - 100%

Tried to buy it last week at about 85800 but the damn thing ran away from me. Eventually got in today at 88050 with a target at least 93685 but I might have to revise that downwards.

Cash - 100%

Sold Resilient at 13126 Friday 18th March.

Sold too soon again. But I'm still on track for achieving my target for the year so no worries. And I don't pay tax on the divi so that's cool.

Your broker should supply you with charts otherwise you can go to http://www.reuters.com/finance/stocks

Enter your stock code into the box and add j dot j. Like CML would be cmlj.j

Then click on the stock that comes up.

Now click on "Charts".

There you can choose the time frame.

Now you can slide the vertical line to the date you want. It will show just above the chart and give you open, high, low and close price for that day.

Hey guys  :)

It's been ages. Compliments of the season to all. I hope this is going to be a good year for everyone.

I've been too busy to watch daily market movements.

I'm holding:

Coronation Balanced fund

Coronation Top 20

Satrix Top 40

Sasol

Vodacom and some MTN.

That's it.

I'm pretty content with this and will hold for the foreseeable next 5 years at least...

I'm not feeling the coronation funds over the next 5 years. Smaller funds with more flexibility are more likely to outperform in this market.
