Watch the ten minute chart Ocean...look at the last two candles at 21:50 and 22:00 the bodies of the candles are identical and in line with the previous candle which more than likely means that the next 10 minute candle will be lower..The 22:00  candle opened at the same level as the previous candle and started to move down. Its even more accurate if there is small tops or no tops or tails. I use it for an entry and exit point and it works for me

In the last 3 days IG has always dropped after the US closes at 22:00 so I don't have to know why to know that it might happen again. Finger was on the trigger remember

Thanks for insight and graph Chubby, it is sure to help me.

Obama did not agree with deal last night. but market still goes up.

At least you know the range now. Just long any dip between 38000-39000

Even if you picked a long from anywhere in the range. Chances are you will make money.

Even if you put 10 buys in the range. Money will be made. Bull times are coming back again. Most indices in eurozone are not far from all time highs.

Stick with the long term trend. And you will do fine.

Every man and his dog is buying dips now.

OK, but wouldn't your interest then be R750k + R1.5Mk = R2.25M? Remember you pay interest on the whole exposure.

(That explains why the brokers make so much money!?)

Okay if you pay interest on the whole exposure then you are right you pay R2.25M and your profit is R750k. That would be good profit though

BBW, remember you entered the trade at 10,000 and you have 10 contracts and since these are ZAR10 contracts each pip is ZAR10 there profit is 10 contracts * 30,000 pips * ZAR10 pips per contract that gives you R3 million

OK, but wouldn't your interest then be R750k + R1.5Mk = R2.25M? Remember you pay interest on the whole exposure.

BBW, i saw your post again in CFD calculations and gave more thought to the interest calculation as the formula was given by IG which was posted in the Topic.

Firstly i need to correct my earlier post on your profit on those 10 contracts, the profit would be R3 million! Yes, R3 million before subtracting interest. I had forgot to multiply the profit by ZAR10 since these are ZAR10 contracts. So profit calculation is 10 contracts * 30,000 difference between closing price and opening price * ZAR10 per contract which gives you R3 million.

Intrest calculation based on the formula lets split it for each 5 year period:

1st 5 years: the average of Top 40 would be 15,000 i.e (10,000 + 20,000)/2 and on the 10% interest for a 5 year period your interest would be R75,000 i.e 10 contracts * 15,000 average for Top 40 * 10% * 5 years.

2nd 5 years: the average of Top 40 would be 30,000 i.e (20,000 + 40,000)/2 and interest 10% for the next 5 years again would be R150,000 i.e 10 contracts * 30,000 * 10% * 5 years.

Total interest is R225,000 for the 10 year period.

Net profit would be R2,775,000 i.e R3,000,000 less R225,000. Margin will be returned.

Thank you for these interest calculations; I seem to remember now something like this from school. :o I think your profit calculation is wrong though: R30k x 10 = R300k. Still, R75 000 profit's not to bad for using only R1000!

Hi BBW, i think your profit would be R300,000 i.e (10 contracts * R30,000 profit per contract) less your interest of R24,000 giving you R276,000 profit.

Since you worked out profit per contract you dont have to subtract margin because the margin will be returned to your account.

OK, maybe I got my 0's a little wrong? But then the interest would be more in the region of R240 000, with a R60k profit.

Don't know how I did this: (I thought) I had a sell order in @ 38755 and when I got back to my computer, I had bought! Anyway, this is not what I lay awake about last night, but my topic "CFD Calculations". PLEASE have a look and help, if you can. Reason (partly) being this:

The SA40 on 01/02/04 was about 10000 and on 01/02/14 will (should) be 40000; thus, it has exactly doubled every 5 years. My question is this: How much interest would I have paid (+-) by Feb next year, had I BORROWED R1000 in Feb 04, bought 10 x R10 contracts (R10 000) and cashed out the R40 000 in Feb 14?

According to my (very rough) calculations very early this morning, while lying in bed, +-70-80% of the (starting) total every 5 years! I.e. +-R8000 after the 1st 5 years and again +-R16 000 after the next 5, giving you a total of +-R24 000 interest paid on a bruto profit of R30 000, i.e. R6000 net profit; minus the initial R1000 = R5000?? (I've worked on a very rough average interest rate of +-10%).

What say you!??
