Nice to see a bit of blue on the screen 12 - 17 April was no joke for me.I was starting to feel like a long term investor with my longs in the red
The first goal is to ensure survival – avoid the risks that can empty your account and put you out of the trading business.

Ugh... scratch that! Up it goes.
I reckon you also see it, but your feel was right, me thinks you stopped out +- 10 or 15 points just too early. But at that moment in time, one just did not know.
Well spotted however!

The mark of a professional, however, sounds like this:
It is my fault. I traded this position too large for my account size.
It is my fault. I didn’t stick to my own risk parameters.

Short @ 33900, but will keep a close eye on it, as the trend today is clearly up, I am just attempting a scalp.
and stopped out.

For a long, you are paid the point-tally ito the divi.
For a short, you pay-in the point-tally ito the divi.
The actual ZAR amount depends on the contract-size and number of contracts.
For IGM, the divi payment is made / due @ 16:50 on the day of the divi. At that point in time, the market falls the tally of the divi points and it either recoups or it doesn't (the drop will trigger your SL if it is hit during the tally drop). - that is dependent on the market trend and momentum at that time. This year, most of the time it made-up the point drop fairly quickly, but there is no assurance.
This all was discussed some time ago on the old SC, so no harm in posting it again, I reckon.
What is the effect of the div payout on an open long position

Anyone have any reasons for that sudden fluctuation in GBP/ZAR rate?

a minor shooting, a couple people dead does not affect the lives of greedy traders! only big scale things like 9/11 or earth quake in SF will affect it and then it will be ideal buying opportunity bec invariably when problem is contained or assessed then there is bounce back. of course if market is looking for news to crack , like now, even then a small scale thing will jsut be brushed aside

boston shooting incident overnight looks like new topic on cnn..... any impact on our longs?

There was an order this morning @ 33830 for 150 contracts, that was taken up.
Do you think that is dumb money? That's a lot of capital.

Hi schumdl,
To be honest I am not that clued up on the divi payouts and the effect it is having on the markets!
But the 'dumb' money bought in this morning so the stage is set for the final drop...
