If I'm looking to short a share over a longer time frame, say 6-12 months, what is the best way to do this?
CFD's and SSF's seem to be more for trading.
 
I'd also like to apply some gearing.

is this the expected correction or is there major lemmings mentality with overselling on banks and retailers.

Retailers are due for some pain.

The results coming out now just don't justify PE's over 20 anymore.

 

Either way, I've stopped out of my longs.  Will sit on hands for the moment.

Ag man, this market has the jitters.

Tight stops placed on remaining longs.

Closing SHF long for a nice little loss.

On a big down day like this does one close out the Short on SHP and bank the money or remain greedy. On the flip side does go long hoping for a relief retrace on oversold SHP.

SL on FBR long upped to 103 (from 98)...had to wait a little, but this is paying off nicely now.

Looking for 108.

Nice - at least this will pay for my expensive car this month

 

SL on CFR long upped to 102, locking in some small change.

I have to give it to you about SHP! You were saying months ago or even up to a year ago, that despite the appeal surrounding the safety of SHP, and others, sooner or later the indebted consumer would reveal itself and the share price would adjust accordingly. How right you were even though your thoughts were against the tide at the time.

 

Where do you see the economy going from here? Do you invest in any stocks with a longer term view?

I reckon worse is still to come as far as retailers are concerned... Consumer is over stretched!! loans are also going to be hard to come by!!

 

I used to play CFD short term...but now I am full time into alsi trading... Just have a few cfds open which I am keeping for medium term as I have absolutely no tim to follow them...and all are short positions so does not cost me any finance charges!!
