Many traders bought based on hope, not valuations, and as a result, those people will panic now that it's falling, and continue to dump the stock...
100% agreed

Biggest one-day loss in 2.5 years, obviously due to some bad Tencent news. http://www.fin24.com...mering-20140314
What's everyone's opinion on NPN? At these levels I'm weary, but still holding.

Here are both. MTA is too high above the 200SMA at the moment so some pull back is on the cards. Metair Investments Ltd MTAJ.J Chart Reuters.com.png 37.06KB 90 downloads Naspers Ltd NPNJn.J Chart Reuters.com.png 25.83KB 91 downloads
I started here with nothing and still have most of it left.

Had you waited a while, you could have got it cheaper at 123 000. Look at the charts. Not sure if duel listed stocks close gaps though.
Ah well, you win some, you loose some; in the end it won't matter what price I got it at today. Got another order waiting @ 1220. What in the charts made/makes you wait for 1230?
Still wanted to say thank you for the MTA recommendation; also in my LT portfolio and looking good...
Also topping-up again on my CML holding today.

More to NPN than Tencent...Mail.ru, facebook , multichoice etc but tencent does provide a meaningfull contribution!!
it really doesnt matter what the actual growth is.
if there is hype and euphoria like we have now then expensive shares just become more expensive.
this market is certainly not easy to trade.
im looking to buy on a pull back which just does not happen.
i like resi stocks and am waiting for a decent pull back there.
i subscribe to a certain news letter that says the s & p index (currently at about 1700) will see 3000 within a certain number of years(long term)
does that sound like a hard to believe scenario?(this is based on technical analysis)

How can Naspers be running @ >40 PE?
Does there growth outlook look that strong?
Tencent is a Chinese company with questionable accounting practices, am I missing something?

Jakes, the potential of the 1.4B chinese market and the increasing monetization of tencent outweighs the risks for most investors.
same deal with Amazon...last I checked it was on a PE in the 100s

wow..pretty impressive stuff from Naspers!
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Consolidated revenues grew by 27% to R50,2bn. Growth came from organic expansion of existing businesses and
acquisitions, supplemented by the depreciation of the rand (which has a positive effect when we translate foreign
revenues into rand).
Internet
In the aggregate, managed internet revenues expanded 80% to R34,6bn. Trading profits from the internet segment
were 44% higher at R6,2bn.
